On the eve of her divorce, Ruby Warner checks into a downtown Boston hotel to prepare for the signing of her divorce papers. Along with her best friend, Fran, she spends the night reflecting on her life, the course of events that led to the demise of her marriage, and the joys and pitfalls of being single again. As the evening ensues, Ruby receives unexpected visits from her wheeler-dealer father and the ghost of her deceased grandmother, Pearl, a former Rockette. Each of them comes to lend support and encouragement to Ruby as her life takes a new direction.
